I don't see how it could be. If I were Russia, or an ally of Russia, an expansionist NATO would be galvanizing for me and would accelerate a counterbalance alliance. Creating a potentially entrenched conflict in countries that have surface-to-surface access to Moscow would be in my benefit. Ukraine falls into that category.
- antris 3y agoUS is literally sending weapons to the perpetrators of a genocide. Genocides do not make the world more stable, just the opposite.

- lawn 3y agoYou do realize that Russia invading a peaceful country that was turning more towards democracy and away from dictatorships like Russia is what pushed Sweden and Finland into NATO, in fear of Russia invading and terror bombing them? Not protecting yourself, and letting Russia do whatever they want, is what countries did to Nazi Germany for years. Have we learned nothing from history?
- antris 3y agoRussia being bad does not make Nato good. Just like Nato being bad does not make Russia good.

- dkjaudyeqooe 3y agoThat happened in response to being invaded by Russia.
- tharmas 3y agoAccording to this article it was much earlier. https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/the-truth-behind-ukraine-s-language-policy/ https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/the-truth...

- dkjaudyeqooe 3y agoOK, I should have said in response to actions by Russia, which is the point, my timeline is obviously wrong.
- protomolecule 3y agoAll the Russian actions happened later.
- dkjaudyeqooe 3y agoRussia obviously had been interfering in Ukraine politics. Why do you think the president fled to Russia? Ukraine even at that point had long wanted to escape Russia's malign influence, banning their language is a declaration of that desire.

- Duwensatzaj 3y ago> counterbalance alliance Russia had that in CSTO. After Russia ignored Armenia’s request for help, it’s worthless. And Russia has already created entrenched conflicts in a number of countries for exactly that reason.

- the_why_of_y 3y agoArmenia was invaded in 2021 and Azerbaijan occupies "at least 215 square kilometres (83 sq mi) of internationally recognized Armenian territory." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenia%E2%80%93Azerbaijan_border_crisis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenia%E2%80%93Azerbaijan_bor...
- protomolecule 3y agoThe border isn't demarcated and you need to consider the larger context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict where Armenian armed forces helped ethnic Armenians create unrecognized state on the territory of Azerbaijan. [0] You don't get to claim that you are a victim when you have created a pseudo-state on the territory of your neighbor. - ProjectArcturis 3y agoMaybe if Russia weren't an active threat to all its neighbors, its neighbors wouldn't want to join NATO so badly.
