Nobody uses Facebook any more for news, X.com is where news breaks. So this makes sense.

- paddez 3y agoResearch* shows that Twitter only accounts for a fraction of traffic that Facebook/Meta directs to News media. * https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/journalism-media-and-technology-trends-and-predictions-2024 https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/journalism-media-...
- add-sub-mul-div 3y agoBut if you go by feels instead of data, Twitter is winning. That's what's important in 2020s discourse.
- ByQuyzzy 3y ago>Reuters has investigated their business and discovered, through very well endowed "research," that Twitter isn't news. I never said that people click THROUGH to news sites from Twitter. But just that, that's where they get their news.
- shiroiushi 3y agoI thought people got their news from TikTok these days. (Or should I call it "news"?)
- justinclift 3y agoDunno if I buy that personally. I don't use X/Twitter at all any more (lost interest prior to Elon buying it), and I only see it pop up in links on HN. Now that Nitter.net has gone away (to see replies on X/Twitter), I don't even bother clicking on the Twitter stories any more.
- simonblack 3y agoHmm. I don't use FaceBook or X. The 'news' that appears on FaceBook or X isn't.
- oglop 3y agoAnd here I thought the paid subscription to a newspaper with journalists was how I got my news. Guess it depends on what you call news too. I don’t typically think of media whores and liars as good news sources but to each their own.
- jamez1 3y agoNot sure why you are getting the downvotes, this was stated as the main reason that Meta disbanded FB News: https://about.fb.com/news/2024/02/update-on-facebook-news-us-australia/ https://about.fb.com/news/2024/02/update-on-facebook-news-us... "The number of people using Facebook News in Australia and the U.S. has dropped by over 80% last year. "
