I don't care about network transparency, but the fact that wayland doesn't have a window manager in the traditional sense really bugs me. Plus, nvidia have said that they won't be supporting wayland at all. This leads me to believe that in the end we'll end up running everything in X as usual, and X will be a thin enhancement layer over wayland. There's way too much infrastructure in X to just brush it all off client-side.
- Arelius 14y agoThe wayland compositor is the traditional window manager, takes a similar amount of code to write, and has the same scope and usage. Additionally, Nvidia doesn't need to support Wayland, that is why Wayland isn't using GLX by default.
- el_presidente 14y agoHow does Wayland draw things on the screen if it doesn't support the video card?
- Arelius 14y agoI meant to imply that Nvidia the company doesn't need to support Wayland specifically, rather that Wayland has multiple ways to support the GPU without the company's involvement.
