Let's not over-hype Rust: A VFX Perspective
- paxsonsa 3y agoRust is growing in popularity and hype but we should be cautious about overselling it. I can already hear the rustaceans sharpening their claws, but hear me out. As rust evangelists, we need to be vigilant around over-hyping, or rather overselling, the language as it can be intimidating and off-putting to potential adopters and I hope I can provide a unique perspective.
- SoothingSorbet 3y agoI agree that some of the rhetoric can be off-putting, and it put me off personally for a long time. I think we should let the results speak for themselves -- there's an impressive and solid ecosystem of high-quality software, and there's more every day. That should be enough to sell it on its merits without being a little too forceful. I think the Linux kernel is taking the right approach on this too.
- paxsonsa 3y agoThanks for taking the time to have a read! You and I could not agree more. I am really stoked whenever I see something working in production and folks embracing new ideas.
- coldtea 3y agoOff topic, does anybody else dislike the AI generated blog illustrations such as in TFA?
- SoothingSorbet 3y agoYes, they're often quite uncanny and turn me off. Then again, I don't like off-topic stock photos either. I'd rather see no images than either.
- paxsonsa 3y agoYea, I am not sure I will continue to use them but they are really fun to generate. That reminds me I should probably add a disclaimer there
