Ask HN: Best way to make side money 500 euros per month
How can a generalist make side money no less than 500 euros per month?
Can anyone recommend anything? I would like to test this as a PoC, if plausible.

- mrbait 3y agoYou can trivially make €500/mo as a beggar, but it's extremely time inefficient. In other words, how much time you have per week?

- mrbait 3y agoNo, it's based on rumours about some local old ladies' begging syndicate. My point was about efficiency though.
- stefanos82 3y agoI have around 10 hours per week, if that helps.
- brudgers 3y agoThat's about 40 hours a month so waiting tables would probably work. Or Barrista. Or mall security guard. Or basically, an ordinary low wage job is the simplest thing that might work.

- aynyc 3y agoI used to teach ms office and stupid stuff like that for about $20 an hour at night classes. That was maybe 15 years ago. You have 10 hours a week, so if your schedule allows, maybe do some teaching?
- stefanos82 3y agoI have tried it for 7 years as teaching assistance. For some reason, it saddens me teaching others, because I don't have it as a teacher; I cannot convey the right message.
- aynyc 3y agoThat’s fairly common. I had a lot of bad TAs in college. Maybe private tutoring?
- stefanos82 3y agoI have tried that and lost to chatGPT! :D Seems like they prefer it, especially university students that need to deliver project as soon as possible!
- xu3u32 3y agoI teach as an adjunct at a local community college online. It pays about $1k a month. Just basic HTML, CSS and Python. It is about 2 hrs of work per week.
- stefanos82 3y agoI guess I should have added `technologist` along with generalist; my bad, it was not clear at all. My problem is the lack of specialization in one stack of technology. Others deal with web development exclusively, others with AI and its sub-categories, others deal with gaming development, and so forth. I'm just trying to find a way to make 500 euros per month, no less than that so I can stand on my feet again...I won't go in details about my personal life here, I hope you understand why I'm going after the minimum amount of income.
- aynyc 3y agoIf ethical issue is not your main concern, you can always do other people’s programming homework. Charge whatever you think it’s appropriate. Another possibility is data entry. Here in the US is between $20-$25 an hour.

- stefanos82 3y agoIf I had $137K I would not asked for at least 500 euros per month LOL!
