I'm not sure I have seen this idea before. Interesting idea. I think you need to differentiate between different levels and types of addiction and different substances. It's not all quite the same thing. Also, not mentioned is the role of advertising and culture in alcohol addiction. Or poverty and circumstances like homelessness. Or the availability and social acceptance of substances in a group.
