I disagree strongly. Safety should be adhered to and reminding him/her even once too many times is the right thing to do. BUT a lot of things are dangerous, and we can become proficient at it. Driving a car is helluva dangerous but we can learn it. You can learn about mains voltage, and you should learn about it properly first. But to suggest that one not try to innovate like he does - then hackernews is not the right place for your nerves :)
