Honesty, Javascript front-end developers are probably more at risk of “being replaced” by AI than designers. This is probably where this sentiment is coming from.
- copperx 3y agoWhy Javascript front end developers specifically?
- fetzu 3y agoI wouldn’t say it’s “Javascript front-end developers” specifically, but front-end developers in general. Intuitively, I’d say it’s because front-end development sits in the sweet spot between the creative side of the designer (who sets the tone of a website/app through their design) and the technical side/aspects of the back-end. An AI is most likely to understand how to interact with an existing back-end while respecting the “creative constraints” placed by the designer. To use a dumb analogy: if I had to use an AI to help design an airplane, I wouldn’t let it touch the flight control system or generate the movies and music from the in flight entertainment library, but I’d give it the task of making the HMI for the in flight entertainment system. Worst case scenario, it’s going to be .01% less clunky than the existing ones.
- lesser_value 3y agoAI is wayyy better at writing backend then it is at writing CSS. Its magic to it, if you don't have an exact problem that you can probably find on stack overflow just as easily, you are fucked.
