"They also don't mention that prisons aren't free to run" - Yeah, there is no way the system would put more people in prison to make more money (especially people no one cares about, black and/or poor).
- self_awareness 3y agoI don't think "the system" needs to put innocent people in jail in order to make a living. There are plenty of criminals to choose from. Also it's obvious that only poor criminals go to jail, black or not black. Rich criminals are busy running the world (also rich black criminals).
- wtcactus 3y agoBlack and/or poor criminals. The key word here is "criminals".
- iinnPP 3y agoExcept the rate of innocent people in prison is incredibly high. So no, they are not all criminals, many of them are, in fact, just SLAVES.
- wtcactus 3y agoNo, it's not. There are absolutely no real statistics that confirm what you claimed.
- dopidopHN 3y agoI’m about to get up, but DNA testing has demonstrated that a lot of people claiming to be innocent, had indeed not being present on the crime scene or that, indeed, a third person was also here.
- youngtaff 3y agoAnd things like the ‘war on drugs’ was created to target non-white people

- fnordian_slip 3y agoSince on hn, it is common courtesy to give others the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume your comment is made out of ignorance, not malice. In that spirit, you might profit from the following quote: “You want to know what this [war on drugs] was really all about? The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.” ~ John Ehrlichman, Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs under President Richard Nixon
- dopidopHN 3y agoIt’s been pretty well documented at this point that the crack epidemic was not fought by the CIA , but rather welcome. ( see “contra trafficking” )

- mschuster91 3y ago> Black and/or poor criminals. The key word here is "criminals". These "criminals" were only made criminals because those in power at that time wanted to criminalize being black and against the Vietnam war - and they openly admitted to that, many decades later: > “You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities,” Ehrlichman said. “We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news.
