The true power of lid closure is that it makes you feel gross and REALLY want to wash your hands, and by washing your hands, you get rid of 99% of the risks.

- pi-e-sigma 3y agoNot if you close the lid using your foot :)
- WeAddValue 3y agoOr your, oh, nevermind.
- low_tech_punk 3y agolol, exactly to the point though, knowing others using their foot makes you want to wash hands even more ;)
- sixstringtheory 3y agoI know other people use their feet, which is partly why I use my foot
- cooperadymas 3y agoAh, game theory at its finest.
- low_tech_punk 3y agotragedy of the public toilets
- sokoloff 3y agoUnless the lid is powered as part of a washlet... (which I can whole-heartedly recommend as one of the best ways I've spent $1K on my house).
- amelius 3y agoSounds like an overcomplicated solution that requires lots of maintenance.
- _Adam 3y agoMine has proven equally reliable to a mechanical toilet, while providing considerably more comfort. This actually makes sense when you consider all the mechanical complexity in a typical toilet is getting replaced with a series of solenoids. Flush is now just energizing an electromagnet, rather than the gravity-powered dance of floats and valves you're used to. There's also fun to be had trolling toddlers. Sometimes when my 2yo closes the toilet I'll sneakily open it with the remote and she'll yell at it "NO!" and slam it shut again.
- miah_ 3y agoIf there's one feature I don't want my toilet to have, its an app.
- Volundr 3y agoThey said remote, not app. My toilet has a remote with all it's features that's mounted on the wall next to the toilet. The on toilet controls are limited to the essentials. As to why they have the remote outside of the bathroom apparently.... I took have questions.
- QuercusMax 3y agoI heard about somebody at Google (where they have lots of Washlets) who swapped the remotes for two neighboring Washlets either on purpose or by accident. Much hilarity ensued.
- sokoloff 3y agoIn three years, it's been one pair of AA batteries so far and the cap on 'lots of maintenance' would be a 15-minute task to remove and replace with a new one.
