Apple Vision Pro Lacks Wi-Fi 6E Support
- martinky24 3y agoIs this meaningful news? Can’t say it feels like it is to me.
- cedws 3y agoNot really, I fail to see why it would need the latest and greatest Wi-Fi standard's bandwidth. It's not a workstation, it's an XR device.
- jackvalentine 3y agoLatency is the important thing for VR, not bandwidth.
- cedws 3y agoI don't think the Vision Pro streams anything over Wi-Fi though, it's all processed onboard. I remember that the demo showed it connecting to a MacBook for sharing the display but that's probably over Bluetooth.
- jackvalentine 3y agoI really doubt it streams over bluetooth - I would guess some kind of wifi direct but I’m not aware of anything apple has said about this. Streaming could be a lot of things - the Meta Quest has a steam link app to stream Steam VR apps to it, Apple TV/phone/ipad also have steam link and I use it a lot of my Apple TV to play games.
- fomine3 3y agoStreaming high resolution screen from Mac will be one of the biggest application at launch. It needs higher bandwidth and stable low latency connectivity. Bluetooth is too poor about bandwidth. That is Wi-Fi 6E is good at because it uses new clean high bandwidth frequency. It won't be a serious problem unless Wi-Fi 6 (5GHz) situation is terrible, but I think it's better to have 6E for an expensive device, especially for enterprises.
- jackvalentine 3y agoI think it is - 6E works leaps and bounds better for streaming than previous gen wifi. I am not sure how much of that is down to using 6ghz band and how much of that is down to protocol improvements. The lack of legacy devices crapping up the 6ghz band is probably a big help. Big improvements to latency for example when streaming VR to a headset.
