I know he's loved around here, but I just don't see it. He was an asshole to work with (many accounts of this) and only did what he felt like doing. His legal issues were a result of saying fuck you to everyone and just doing exactly this. This is authoritarian behavior and anyone like this that actually gets power will surely make the people he has power over suffer. It seems that most activists are just authoritarians without power.

I didn't know him, but for me, the important point about Aaron's life is protecting the commons against overreach. This kind of activism is about shining a light on political ideologies that perpetuate greed so an exclusive group of people can benefit from common knowledge that should be open to the public. I translate "doing what he felt like doing" acting from a sense of doing what's right and not supporting systems he didn't agree with. If everyone acted from their conscience, this world would be in a much better place. I think Aaron set a good example of that.
