"Because human same-sex sexual behavior (SSB) is heritable,"
What?
- AnimalMuppet 3y agoHuman bisexual behavior may be hereditable. Purely homosexual behavior is not. That is, homosexual behavior is not hereditable if it is pure and lifelong. Those who engage in heterosexual behavior before discovering/deciding/whatever that they are not hetero have the chance of passing on their DNA.
- smt88 3y agoLots of people who engage in same-sex sexual behavior have kids. Those kids are more likely to engage in same-sex sexual behavior. What is confusing about that?
- dekhn 3y agoThe area has been controversial for a while, see https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/29/science/gay-gene-sex.html https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/29/science/gay-gene-sex.html and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31467194/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31467194/ I know of Ben Neale's work well enough to say that I generally trust his output but am not qualified to say whether the work in this paper is accurate. Note that in the Times article, some scientists actually wanted to suppress the publication of these findings because of what they believed the consequences would be, which I find extremely disturbing. Fortunately, the Broad gave space to one of the dissenters to articulate their position: https://www.broadinstitute.org/news/perspectives-complex-genetics-same-sex-sexual-behavior https://www.broadinstitute.org/news/perspectives-complex-gen... I believe also nearly everything here is just association using statistics, rather than some sort of causal mechanistic description, among many other issues. But the idea that sexuality is hereditable seems fairly certain at this point.
