The one that surprised me the most to be struggling is Disney+. I thought they would have the strongest streaming story since they have so much of the prime IP: Star Wars, Marvel, Disney Animation, Pixar, etc, whereas Netflix is still heavily dependent on licensed IP.

- zamadatix 3y agoHollywood accounting or not on the profit side it still doesn't explain why it has leveled off at 1/4 the revenue of Netflix too.
- smileysteve 3y agoTurns out that streaming unlimited things to a family of 2+ for $13 a month is less profitable than selling $20 experiences per person per view? Doesn't seem too surprising to me.
- selcuka 3y agoIt doesn't explain how Netflix is profitable and Disney+ is not.
- edgyquant 3y agoI think that’s the problem. People have seen all of disneys stuff and what’s new isn’t original or appealing to anyone.
- sobellian 3y agoMaybe prime in the sense that they push out a lot of content, but let's face it - Star Wars and Marvel, they ain't Hemingway.
- HDThoreaun 3y agoStreaming services need to continually pump out new content. Disneys release schedule is too slow and they don’t have enough original ip, all their stuff is the same few brands. Their strategy works better for destination content like movies when streaming is a binge based platform.
