If I asked you which tech hub was larger between Austin, Detroit, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Raleigh-Durham and Portland what would you guess?
The answer is Detroit and that may come as a surprise to many. If they included Ann Arbor as part of Detroit metro I'm guessing that would be in the same league as Boston or Chicago.
To my defense I will point out that Ann Arbor is now reached on the Detroit bus system. In addition an airport bus and a University of Michigan bus make multiple trips daily between the cities.
- tptacek 3y agoA2 to Detroit is not really a reasonable commute. It's like commuting from San Francisco to San Jose.
- kasey_junk 3y agoWhich isn’t much longer than commutes between Raleigh and Durham.
- tptacek 3y agoSo that's interesting, and I've never lived in the RTP area or whatever, but I have lived in SJC, SFO, and A2, and I didn't feel like those commutes were reasonable, nor (in A2) did I know anybody who did that commute; we'd drive into DTW for like concerts and stuff, and it was a whole thing.
- wglb 3y agoI would agree. However, there was a period of time that I commuted between Ann Arbor and Chicago.
