Is this tech, beyond what it can do for those struggling with disabilities, really a good idea to be full on developing in an AI world? Mind reading for computers? Nobody else sees the potential?
- unsupp0rted 3y agoIf AIs decide to mind-control us, they will develop this tech far more expertly than we ever can. Meanwhile, if we can make the lame walk, we should.
- happytiger 3y agoThere is a vast difference between having a technology framework ripe for exploitation and having the potential for one. There is a tendency to point to moral good and say, “of course we should take the risk” as if morality isn’t a grey area or other alternatives therapies that could help people or solve the same problem don’t exist. Just because it’s a technology with impact that creates social good doesn’t make it a societal good. That’s worth considering and not quashing. AI will be under high scrutiny and is much less likely to be allowed to create technologies like this at least initially. But if it already exists and is widely deployed?

That's like the apes saying "Homo sapiens are under high scrutiny and we will not allow them to develop stick-sharpening technology, at least initially". They have no way of fathoming the thousand other weapons and traps we can easily develop. And they wouldn't even recognize half of them as being weapons or traps, even as they watch us building them.
