Teen's death in Wisconsin sawmill highlights "21st century problem" across U.S.
- pjkundert 3y ago“in the worst cases, minors would be discovered in grueling jobs like farming or construction.” This is written by someone who, quite frankly, is almost suicidally stupid. I would recommend only hiring kids who grew up in farming or construction. Curtailing parents and employers from training kids in these skills is a recipe for civilizational collapse.

- matrix87 3y ago> Relatedly, a tight labor market has made it harder for meat processors, farms, roofing contractors and other employers to find workers willing to do physically taxing, often low-paying work. So pay more then? Instead of trapping children in these slaughterhouse jobs and justifying it with a bunch of shit about "building character"?
- foxyv 3y agoAdam Conover did a piece on this one: https://youtu.be/_ve6BqXzbjw?si=H4EjP4CFTNfsHGHY https://youtu.be/_ve6BqXzbjw?si=H4EjP4CFTNfsHGHY He says a lot of these kids are migrants from other countries and maybe not so much the American kids from poor families trying to make some money on the side.
- clipsy 3y agoSeems like more of a 19th century problem that red states are reintroducing.
