Not sure which quote best captures the absurdity of the article:
'“The Cybertruck is an over-6,000-pound piece of steel that has no business going a quarter mile in under 11 seconds,” National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy told me. “Why do we need that?”'
OR
'To summarize, we don’t yet know how dangerous the Cybertruck really is, but some of its design choices are disturbing, particularly when factoring in the vehicle’s massive weight and overpowered engine. Given Tesla’s myopic interest in its vehicles’ occupants (“If you’re ever in an argument with another car, you will win,” Musk has promised), the potential danger to other street users is real.'
I dunno, but it just seems like they have redoubled efforts to bash Elon in the press after he let Alex Jones back on Twitter followed by impromptu 2 hour interview with him.
- loceng 3y agoIt doesn't seem like National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy is competent enough to have a board seat, for example, simply for a lack of understanding that excessive power gives a person more control in emergency situations. I love you HN.
- MBCook 3y ago> simply for a lack of understanding that excessive power gives a person more control in emergency situations. Really? You’ve never seen one of the many videos of someone with a car too powerful for them to handle getting themselves in a wreck doing something as simple as trying to turn onto the street?
- loceng 3y agoApples to oranges comparison? You know most of the time those sports vehicles lose control is because the drivers turn off driver assist/power steering? Do you want to give another example that would differentiate the Cybertruck/Tesla vehicles from the otherwise status quo?
- Moomoomoo309 3y agoIt also makes it more likely they'll accelerate quickly on turns, making one of the most common causes of pedestrian deaths even worse, since now they'll be going faster.
- BugsJustFindMe 3y agoOr maybe the chair of the independent agency responsible for civil transportation accident investigation has some insight into the outcomes of transportation accidents. I cannot fathom how someone descends to the point of badmouthing the NTSB of all agencies.
