Sure, you could say the same about IE6.
> Wayland is a broken vanity project by a minor amateur maintainer
Despite its flaws, Wayland is a widely adopted production-ready project made by Xorg maintainers and nearly everyone else who has been seriously working on the graphics stack on Linux in the past 5 years. There is a good chance that Wayland is running in your car's infotainment system.
- jmclnx 3y agoAnd it only works on Linux, that is the issue. Porting to other UN*X is a major pain. There is a lot more to the world than Linux. Also I am sure Wayland will never be ported to AIX, you know, the UNIX used by many large finance companies. BSDs are having a hard time with it due to Linuxisms.
- phone8675309 3y agoIt used to be all the world is a VAX and now it's all the world is a Linux. So it goes. That said, how much user facing graphical stuff runs on AIX? That is a genuine question because I don't know and it sounds like you do.
- jmclnx 3y agoSome purchased (3rd party) admin items do, they use motif. We have a couple at work. Some people run these using windows app, I showed people how use Linux years ago.
- Ckirby 3y agoAh yes, more excellent work from the generation of programmers took race-conditions and declared it to be the new "asynchronous" programming paradigm
- phone8675309 3y agoHow long until Wayland is the old thing that we've barely moved on to before the systemd folks subsume the display subsystem?
