It’s good, I like the idea of gatekeepers.
- eviks 3y agoUntil they close the gate right before you
- huytersd 3y agoThen the gate’s closed.
- urbandw311er 3y agoIn many ways this debate reflects the ongoing, much greater one around politics and governance. Many people would prefer a “benevolent dictator” who wields more power and can “get things done”.. ..but once you’ve surrendered that power to them, it can’t be easily taken back. Super Admin’s first action: delete other super admins!
- huytersd 3y agoMeh it’s just some consumer technology, it’s nice but if it’s gone, I’m not gonna to miss it too much.
- urbandw311er 3y agoGood for you
- mablopoule 3y agoAnd I don't like the idea of a pen or a notebook company giving themselves editorial power over what people write in those notebook, which is basically what happens now. I'm disgusted at how we transform such fantastic things as personal computer and turn them into such limited object.
- jimjimjim 3y agoThe general public arrived and their wants transformed computers. And now they have left computers for their phones. You can still do all the things you used to be able to do on your computer.
- karlshea 3y agoAnyone can set up a blog and write whatever craziness they’d like just like you can with a pen or notebook. But no one is entitled to unlimited reach, and that was the case before personal computers came along. No newspaper has published every single letter anyone sends to the editor without using some discretion.
- mablopoule 3y agoThis unlimited reach was kinda possible with all the printing technology, and such things as zine. But the main point is that it's the newspaper's own editor, following the newspaper's own editorial line (and possibly the law)
- mckn1ght 3y agoZines have really small reach compared to the app store and Twitter, and yet still also have editorial direction. You can't just send in any ol' thinkpiece and expect to get it published; it will need to resonate with their sensibilities. The fact of the matter is that everything is gatekept. If you want something done right (as in, not subject to someone else's rules), do it yourself, and you'll find you too will gatekeep after you've spent the considerable effort required to build your own device/OS/appstore ecosystem and social media service, and then someone comes along and tries to tell you how you should run things.
- mckn1ght 3y ago> a pen or a notebook company giving themselves editorial power over what people write in those notebook Don't forget about the most important part: putting what you wrote in front of millions of peoples' eyeballs. No pen/notebook company does that. And if they did, you're not entitled to the vast amount of labor that entails.
- snehk 3y agoMe too, they're coming for the socialists and I'm not a socialist so why would I care.
