Man boards international flight to US with no ticket or passport
- mondayp 3y agoManchurian

- m463 3y agoI'm reminded of the story where an outraged passenger confronts an airline worker saying "Do you know who I AM?!?" and the worker gets on the PA system and says "This person seems to have forgotten who he is, does anyone know?"

- drooby 3y ago"Screen grabs of an unknown foreign city"... I love this part.. I mean surely we should be able to figure out where that map is from.... but if we can't.... if it really doesn't exist... maybe this man is from an alternate universe.
- IMcD23 3y agoMy years of watching TV shows has taught me that this guy is definitely a secret agent.
- MathMonkeyMan 3y agoor a time traveler
- charlie0 3y agoSounds like an X-Files episode.
- hulitu 3y agoMy years of reading "newspapers" and traveling with planes has taught me that this story is too good to be true. Taking a flight to US without a passport, from anywhere in Europe, is impossible.
- hulitu 3y agoMy years of reading "newspapers" and traveling with planes has taught me that this story is too good to be true. Taking a flight to US without a passport, from anywhere in Europe, is impossible. There are multiple passport controls and, unless you can fly to the plane, you can't make it.
- dannyw 3y ago1 in a 100 million chance of the right circumstances and holes existing? Sure. Impossible? That’s different.
- dopylitty 3y agoMight be good to link to the original article[0] directly since it’s by an independent news team. 0: https://www.404media.co/no-record-of-russian-economist-who-flew-to-lax-without-a-ticket-didnt-remember-how-he-got-here/ https://www.404media.co/no-record-of-russian-economist-who-f...

- commandersaki 3y agoToo bad the 404media website is completely useless on mobile.
- sphars 3y agoIs it? Works perfectly fine on my Android device, both in Chrome and FF.
- filoleg 3y agoJust checked, works perfectly fine on iOS safari as well. Not entirely sure what the grandparent comment is on about.
- b112 3y agoIf you scroll and read, eventually a popup shows, with no way to close it.
- filoleg 3y agoJust scrolled all the way down, had two pop ups appear in the process - one for video taking up 1/3 top of the screen (appeared from the beginning as I started scrolling the page), and another one for “read next” (once i got to the bottom of the page). However, both of them are easily dismissable, with none showing up after that. Here is a screen recording[0] of how it looks in Safari. You can see in the very beginning of it that I am clicking page refresh, so i didn’t prep it ahead of time or anything. When you see pop-ups disappear, it is me manually closing them. 0. https://streamable.com/zgucyz https://streamable.com/zgucyz
- CSSer 3y agoMy favorite part is the bit about the crew member’s chocolate. For some reason I get a kick out of imagining a federal official diligently scribbling notes on a pad while a flight attendant confidently asserts that they knew this man was suspicious when he dared try to steal their chocolate.
- ultrarunner 3y agoFascinating that, of all the international travel into LAX on a daily basis, the case of a single individual can be of note. That's a pretty good (known) error rate.
- dannyw 3y agoIt made the news because he got charged with being a stowaway. I’m sure “boarding a wrong international flight to the USA” does happen >5 times a year. I assume most are resolved when there’s a seating conflict.
