CIA and NSA Created Google – By Kit Klarenberg
- martinky24 3y ago"CIA and NSA Created Google" is a bit of a misleading title and pretty disingenuous, to be frank. As the article acknowledges, intelligence agencies pay for grants for certain academic research activities that they thought were relevant to their interests. Billions of dollars of grants happen like this every year, many of which make their way into private industry one way or another, it's a vital source of income for many academic labs. In the instance that a federal entity might pay for some research, and topics related to that research might turn into a private company at a later date, does not mean that "the CIA and the NSA created Google". It makes for great clickbait though!

Google did end up creating vast databases of personal data which are incredibly helpful for CIA and NSA. If it came out the intelligence community helped Google become the data hub that it is, that would be interesting and potentially shocking. However I really doubt that was anticipated and none of the information here presents any connection to this part of Google's existence.
