Economist convinced ChatGPT will result in a four-day workweek
- Finnucane 3y agoI wouldn’t be surprised if chatgpt could replace economists.
- EA-3167 3y agoA magic 8 ball and a shake table could replace economists. An orangutan flipping coins in front of a CCTV camera could do it too. Am I being entirely serious? No, but economists really do seem more like witch doctors than scientists to me.
- DamnYuppie 3y agoThe ones I have interacted with appear to be more focused on curating data to align with their pet hypothesis du jour. They are more political creatures than scientists imho.
- neximo64 3y agoIf it results in a 4 day workweek, thats a 25% increase in productivity. If you have people working 5 days, its the same as working 6.25 days. Presumably people who work in these companies are going to have a net output higher than the 4 day people. There is a chance competition can win, Just another way to look at it from an "economist" point of view

- weatherlite 3y agoBut you can as a legislator prevent companies from having a 5 day work week so no competitor will be able to. Thats also a great way of avoiding mass AI unemployment - companies won't be able to so easy get rid of people.
- clipsy 3y ago50 years of massive productivity gains haven't given us a 4 day workweek, but surely a shitty chatbot will!
- haltingproblem 3y agoOne could argue that the massive productivity gains of the past 50 years have resulted in more full employment than ever in the history of mankind. Hunter gatherers were surely more unemployed than agrarians who were more unemployed than modern civilizational man.
- weatherlite 3y agoShitty chatbot, right, that's an exact description of ChatGPT.
