Lying is currently usually protected for politicians, not illegal. Lies are obvious in most cases, and I think there are established judicial systems to assess if a crime has been committed or not... Of course investigations and indictments have to occur only with sufficient elements to suspect a malfeasance, we're not arguing for wiring politicians to mind readers
