But games are fun when people play by the rules
- tshaddox 3y agoIf the rules are inherently difficult to enforce, that's a fundamental problem with the design of the game. If the rules are reasonably enforceable, but a particular administering body doesn't competently enforce them, that's a problem with that administering body.
- dymk 3y agoRules being difficult to enforce is a function of society being low or high trust. Low trust societies effectively incur excess overhead, having to audit players and set up draconian rules. Some games just might not be possible. It's more pleasant and efficient for everybody to live in a high-trust society.
- tshaddox 3y agoThere may be some independent “level of trust” in a given group of people that could be quantified, but I don’t think it’s a very powerful explainer of which games do or don’t work. Very minor rule changes can cause a huge change in the difficulty of enforcing other rules.
