I agree that this looks ... weird and uncool. But on a cursory look it seems to me like the boards' intentions are the right ones, while Sam seemed intent on making the most money possible with no regard for any of the Org's founding principles. It's why the "Open" in the name had become a joke. I had no hope that OpenAI would ever deliver on its original mission, because when has a commercial takeover ever been reversed? This may or may not kill OpenAI's lead, but maybe at least it will bring back openness ...

and what will you do with all that openness? i personally hoped that openai would continue to innovate and ship at insane speeds, continue to cut costs so i can continue to use their apis. providing the best ai for the lowest possible price is how they would have made me and the rest of the world better and more prosperous. now we'll have to wait and see what they actually deliver.
