> I feel compelled as someone close to the situation to share additional context about Sam and company.
> Engineers raised concerns about rushing tech to market without adequate safety reviews in the race to capitalize on ChatGPT hype. But Sam charged ahead. That's just who he is. Wouldn't listen to us.
> His focus increasingly seemed to be fame and fortune, not upholding our principles as a responsible nonprofit. He made unilateral business decisions aimed at profits that diverged from our mission.
> When he proposed the GPT store and revenue sharing, it crossed a line. This signaled our core values were at risk, so the board made the tough decision to remove him as CEO.
> Greg also faced some accountability and stepped down from his role. He enabled much of Sam's troubling direction.
> Now our former CTO, Mira Murati, is stepping in as CEO. There is hope we can return to our engineering-driven mission of developing AI safely to benefit the world, and not shareholders.

The entire Reddit thread is full of interesting posts from this apparently legitimate pseudonymous OpenAI insider talking candidly.
- adastra22 3y agoOr that Reddit post which has been circulating widely was the source for Kara’s tweets.
- mvkel 3y agoMmmmm no. Kara is a bonafide journalist. Her sources are v real and authenticated for the things she shares.
- fsckboy 3y agoauthentication means finding a 2nd source. This reddit comment could be primary, armed with that it's not hard for Kara to find somebody inside to say "yes, accurate." That is real journalism.
- mvkel 3y agoNot according to Kara Swisher it isn't. https://x.com/maggienyt/status/1578074773174771712?s=46&t=k_fMH_1cSC5qD4RVUa3sWg https://x.com/maggienyt/status/1578074773174771712?s=46&t=k_... I know it's convenient to dUnK on journalism these days but this is Kara Fucking Swisher. Her entire reputation is on the line if she gets these little things wrong. And she has a hell of a reputation
- bitexploder 3y agoI think the phrasing to the parent you replied to is perfect. "Aligns" is correct. IT doesn't really say which direction information flowed. Anyway, it is interesting how tech journalists get so deeply embedded in issues. She does seem to be pretty legitimate.
- k2xl 3y agoThat account actually sounds like it is generating text via chatgpt. zero spelling mistakes and keeps things super vague
- rmwaite 3y agoYou've gotta be kidding me. No spelling mistakes means something was generated by ChatGPT now? Good grief.

- cjak 3y agoI refuse to accept that the lack of spelling mistakes and the careful use of language is evidence of AI. I can be sloppy, but I've known Real Humans to take great care with their written language.
- nine_k 3y agoPrompt: "Retell the following text in a neutral, impassionate, polite tone, blunting any strong statements, and correcting any spelling mistakes along the way."
- mifeng 3y agoWho in the world could Anxious_Bandicoot126 be??? "The board and myself were lied to one too many times."
- mifeng 3y ago"All my teams were raising red flags about needing more time but he didn't give a damn."

- adamsb6 3y agoI'm very curious what definition of safety they were using. Maybe that's where the disagreement lies. AI safety of the form "it doesn't try to kill us" is a very difficult but very important problem to be solved. AI safety that consists of "it doesn't share true but politically incorrect information (without a lot of coaxing)" is all I've seen as an end user, and I don't consider it important.
