Going all hybrid is cool. Not giving customers a choice of a more powerful engine is not. A good acceleration is improving safety. I don't know why Toyota/Lexus decided to nerf all its cars this year
- kenhwang 3y agoThe Lexus Camry/ES still has the 300hp V6 option. Still too early to say if it retains it for 2025.
- noncoml 3y agoAre you sure? ES has i4 2.5L atmospheric and i4 2.4L turbo Camry does have V6 this year but it’s gone next year
- Scoundreller 3y agoDepending on your state of charge, some electric assist should make a short burst of acceleration better?
- seanicus 3y agoYeah, I have a combustion Camry and recently borrowed a friend's hybrid Lexus while mine was in the shop and the hyrbid's shortened lag from pedal press to actual acceleration was probably the most notable difference between hybrid & combustion.
- thatfrenchguy 3y agoMore acceleration makes the average driver worse, as you’ve seen with 90% of your friends who bought an EV
- TheChaplain 3y agoEV torque is insane, and it absolutely shreds tires. Ask any shop and they'll tell you they sell more tires to EV owners. Which from a pollution/microplastics standpoint isn't good, we need an improved sustainable tire asap.
- dymk 3y ago> A good acceleration is improving safety. Unclear this is the case, why do you say so?
- noncoml 3y agoMerging, overtaking, etc..
- Bud 3y ago[dead]
- dymk 3y agoSafely merging and overtaking doesn't involve hard accelerations, though. Unsafely doing those things, sure.
- 3-cheese-sundae 3y agoCan you imagine passing a tractor going 35 on a 55 two-lane country road in a 2500 lb car with 110 horsepower?
- dymk 3y agoUh, yeah? You wait until you know there are no oncoming cars, or until the tractor slows down to let you pass.
- timbit42 3y agoFrom the article: "The hybrid powertrain and a new electronic all-wheel drive system deliver 232 combined horsepower – nearly 15% more than the outgoing Camry with a mechanical all-wheel drive system, Toyota said."
