I have such fond memories of this game growing up. Couldn't afford an expansion pack initially but still poured dozens of hours into the bot matches before picking one up.
Was gutted by what came next, but at the very least we got Timesplitters.
- function_seven 3y agoWe played Golden Eye a lot before Perfect Dark came out, and it was awesome to see that the Facility... er, I mean the Felicity was kept in the game. Never actually played the single player part of either game. It was nonstop 4-player battles. I hated it when they put prox mines near the spawn points, but that's only because I didn't get there first.

- TulliusCicero 3y agoPerfect Dark was an incredible local multiplayer game. 4 player support, plus support for 4 (?) bots where you could set individual difficulties and personalities, each player had their own independent menu in the lobby where they could tweak personal or match settings, a wide variety of weapons, maps, and game modes, there was so much in there. The game also not only had a co-op mode for the campaign, but also an extremely rare "2nd person" counter-op mode, where a second player could take control of random mooks in the mission, jumping from body to body each time they died. There are extremely few games like this, one of the only other ones I can think of is actually Duck Hunt for the NES (you can control the ducks using the 1P controller).
- qup 3y agodozens? I poured dozens of hours into the game the first week! I didn't think it lived up to Goldeneye. It was clearly superior in some ways (bots!), but i think it was too fast, especially considering the input device only had one joystick, and thus was total dogshit. I put probably 25x the hours into GE that I did PD. I'm still kinda mad that the bots had wallhacks. I'm guessing some guy coded that in 5 minutes and they never changed it.
- hnlmorg 3y agoBoth Golden Eye and Perfect Dark support using two controllers per player. Or a controller on each hand and thus two analog sticks. This was, for me, the perfect control mechanism. I still prefer that to modern PS and Xbox controllers.
- qup 3y agoI actually totally forgot all about that. We never worked up to that, there were too many of us. I hadn't really thought of it, but someone should totally make a detached, ergonomic controller like that. I guess the switch has that, right? But their joysticks are so short that they're not very precise. The Kinesis of controllers. Of course, I think Xbox just banned 3rd-party controllers. A lot of third-party risk there.
- w-ll 3y agoTimesplitters 2 is the true squeal to 4player split screen. And they had decent ai and like "zombie" modes
