> iteratively deliver working software to our customers using mature agile development practices with cross-functional teams consisting of developers, product owners, and scrum masters.
Something about this really makes me think its a mess internally
- nine_k 3y agoIf there is an environment where agile practices may be useful, it is the battlefield. Time is of essence, full formal specs are impossible to obtain, each point of the Agile Manifesto [1] naturally applies. Most industries have comparatively less need of agile approaches. - dilyevsky 3y ago> full formal specs are impossible to obtain That’s one thing any military has almost infinite supply of
- nine_k 3y agoFor the hardware, yes. For the conditions on the battlefield, sadly, no. "This cruise missile flies impeccably on our proving grounds" is good but not sufficient. One of the reasons they run k8s on F-35 (yes, they do) is the ability to upgrade some software on a really short notice.
- Banditoz 3y agoWait, what? Every one of those fighter jets is running a k8s cluster?
- nine_k 3y agoI may mis-remember! I only can find confirmations for F-16 and U-2. https://thenewstack.io/how-the-u-s-air-force-deployed-kubernetes-and-istio-on-an-f-16-in-45-days/ https://thenewstack.io/how-the-u-s-air-force-deployed-kubern... https://www.theregister.com/2020/10/08/usaf_u2_spyplane_kubernetes_britten_norman/ https://www.theregister.com/2020/10/08/usaf_u2_spyplane_kube...
- dodslaser 3y agoImagine getting a CrashLoopBackOff strapped to a fighter jet at Mach 2...
- swells34 3y agoThe term you're likely looking for is the Five Paragraph Order, commonly called a SMEAC as a pneumonic. It's quite a bit more tuned for warfare then Agile is.
- austin-cheney 3y agoThe US Army refers to this as an operations order, OPORD, which uses the paragraph pneumonic SMESC.
- dclowd9901 3y agoThey call their dev team a “software factory”. If it wasn’t a mess, I would be astonished.
- agentgumshoe 3y agoIt certainly does at least read as "elite delivery team" lingo bingo.
- virtualritz 3y agoIndeed. That sort of lingo is used at any company which is anything but agile from my own experience. Commonly the classic agile cargo cult by following agile framework X on the surface but being deeply hierarchical in org structure and deeply waterfall in actual practices. On the plus side, it's only Scrum, not SAFEe. ;)
