932 miles is suspiciously specific.
- corbezzoli 3y agoRange = this new battery’s capacity / some car’s average “MPG” This produced an “exact” number out of consumption averages. The public doesn’t yet know what “250 kWh” means.
- dangus 3y agoWhoever wrote that converted 1500km to miles and rounded (= 932.057 miles)
- tooltalk 3y agoThat's just very misleading though: the 980 miles battery in a light, compact EV, eg, M3, isn't going to deliver the same range in a pick-up truck, eg, the Hummer EV. It's just an open invitation for abuse (and has already been abused by battery makers like CATL who recently announced a new improved LFP with 4C charging and 750 miles range??).
- s1artibartfast 3y agoIt is 1500 km translated for US readers.
- taspeotis 3y ago1500km is suspiciously specific. What next, I'll go to the shops and buy EXACTLY two litres of milk? 12 eggs?? https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/546/187/fb1.jpg https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/546/187/fb1...
- wolverine876 3y agoIt's interesting that HN discussions overwhelmingly use Imperial/English/American/whatever - to the point where people sometimes don't consider that metric is common in the real world. There's a fairly international and highly technical population here.
- s1artibartfast 3y agoIn this case, I think it has more to do with an overly cynical tendency on HN to assume everyone else is a bad engineer. 932 “must” come from a lazy performance calculation because they came in assuming it is wrong and that is the first error they think of
- 1-6 3y agoIdemitsu oil refinery also is suspiciously suspect.
- barkingcat 3y agoonly in imperial does it look suspicious.
- cleansingfire 3y agoIf they understood significant figures, it would be less suspicious. Besides, when a vendor uses their own special metric, instead of a well known standard, I lose respect for them.
