Humans.
- PradeetPatel 3y agoHow does this comment help? Despite the rising water temperature, the world collectively is doing more for the climate than ever. Ranging from more ethical fishing practices to the reduction of fossil fuel usage, to more and more corporations going carbon neutral. This kind of defeatist attitude doesn't contribute to a better future.
- distortionfield 3y agoIt’s not a defeatist attitude to clearly point out that it’s humans when we still have a side able voting bloc who insists its _definitely not humans_.
- fouc 3y agoWho says the comment is defeatist or doesn't help? Acknowledging a source of a problem can be a helpful step towards finding a solution.
- pstuart 3y agoBoth sides need attention. We're still continuing to fuck things up and that should be called out. Likewise we should celebrate and support the progress we've made, and not surrender to defeatism.
- reactordev 3y agoYou say that as if you have evidence. You see pictures but for every “oh look at how we care about nature” photo Shell puts out, it drills 3 holes in the ocean leaking oil in perpetuity. We have never been more dependent on oil and gas than we are today. There is no “but we are making progress” to a species that is extinct.
- dillydogg 3y agoDoing more for the climate than ever? Do you mean more annual carbon emissions than ever? I guess it is more for the climate than before, just not in the direction I would like. https://www.iea.org/reports/co2-emissions-in-2022 https://www.iea.org/reports/co2-emissions-in-2022
- distortionfield 3y agoNot sure why you’re being downvoted you’re absolutely right. Anthropogenic climate change caused this massive die out. just one more rapid environmental change faster than evolution can adapt to that will likely result in extinction.
- refurb 3y agoConsidering how global warming has been happening for close to a century, but the crab population "boomed" in 2015 suggests it's not so simple.
- RandallBrown 3y agoHeat waves have existed long before human caused climate change. This article doesn't make any conjecture about the cause of the heat wave either.
- reactordev 3y agoHeat waves don’t exist in the ocean bro. Current temps are pretty bound to -1/1 degree. Any heat wave in the ocean is directly a result of man made climate change.
- peoplefromibiza 3y agoheat waves are pretty common in the oceans. from NOAA website The current Gulf of Mexico marine heat wave has been present for several months, beginning in February/March of 2023. NOAA’s experimental marine heat wave forecasts indicate a 70-100% chance that extreme ocean temperatures will persist in the southern Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. [...] The ocean absorbs 90% of the excess heat associated with global warming. As a result, we know that marine heat waves all over the planet are becoming warmer over time. The absolute temperature of the current event is warmer because of climate change, but it would have likely still occurred without climate change

- beau_g 3y agoImagine what these crabs would do to us if they were in charge though
- Obscurity4340 3y agoSouth Park [already] did it
