They recovered 5500 artifacts... I agree with you, but nowadays with technology they can rapidly to high resolution photography of the sites. Even in the sky with drones. Laser mapping of the site, etc. The goal is just to recover and map all artifacts and their position, cleaning, tagging and figuring out what are they can be done offsite.
