China says Israel has gone too far
- BugsJustFindMe 3y ago> China has an interest in helping resolve the conflict Does it? What interest is that, exactly?
- henriquez 3y agoNot getting dragged into WW3, for one.
- throw310822 3y agoNot sure if it can do much for resolving the conflict, yet; but I guess it can gain diplomatically from putting its (almost) superpower weight in support of the Muslim countries- at least on matter of Palestine- instead of being openly antagonistic- as the US have always been.
- BugsJustFindMe 3y agoI'm curious about this idea of open antagonism from the US. Certainly the US is antagonistic about things like beheadings of journalists and killing women for the crimes of being raped or exposing their hair, but it hasn't stopped the US from selling weapons to and otherwise completely supporting the rule of multiple strict Islamic governments in the region.
- JoeyBananas 3y agoIf the choice is between one of those "bad" countries (e.g., UAE) or a terrorist group (e.g., Isis) which one would you choose?

- dang 3y agoCould you please stop posting comments about this? I appreciate that the situation is fraught and intense, and I know you have good reasons to feel strongly about it, but you've been posting way too many flamewar-style comments about this issue and this is not what HN is for. This is a place for curious conversation, not fighting wars. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- xchip 3y agoThat is not true, I am curious as of why we all are accepting the double standards of the conflict. Also, there is a lot of smart people in HN and I would like to hear different opinions to get a better understanding. Having some threads talking about this matter wouldn't hurt, and specifically for the same reasons you mention in your "about": "Conflict is essential to human life, whether between different aspects of oneself, between oneself and the environment, between different individuals or between different groups. It follows that the aim of healthy living is not the direct elimination of conflict, which is possible only by forcible suppression of one or other of its antagonistic components, but the toleration of it—the capacity to bear the tensions of doubt and of unsatisfied need and the willingness to hold judgement in suspense until finer and finer solutions can be discovered which integrate more and more the claims of both sides."
- dang 3y agoI believe you that you've been posting out of curiosity, but your comments do not land this way with the reader at all. They seem provocative, inflammatory, and hostile. I hear you that you don't intend them that way, but intent isn't the active ingredient here. The active ingredient is effects, and comments like what you've been posting are guaranteed to have bad effects on HN. Yes, the quote you're citing from my profile is about conflict, but it's about tolerating conflict, not adding to it. Those are opposites. It's about learning to build capacity in yourself to absorb provocations without inflicting them on others. In this way one learns to act in a way that serves reconciliation. It's a profound insight (which is why I quote it in my profile!), a difficult challenge, and maybe even the most-worth-doing thing in the world. But it has nothing to do with venting conflictual emotions—as I say, it's a call to the opposite. If you want to understand this better, I think the key phrase in the quote is "unsatisfied need".
