Microsoft Is Looking to Acquire Nintendo “At Some Point”
- adamredwoods 3y agoNintendo has a family charm, IMO, that Microsoft will never be able to duplicate. Xbox is not charming, and I own both an Xbox and Nintendo. In my limited opinion, they seem to be very opposite companies. The only reason I can think of that Microsoft would acquire Nintendo would be to kill it off.
- gdulli 3y agoWhy would they kill off a complementary product? Nintendo could be the kids/mobile brand and Xbox would be the adult living room brand. Microsoft could profit from both. It's Playstation that would become redundant in an acquisition.
- meepmorp 3y ago> Why would they kill off a complementary product? Incompetence, plus some longstanding organizational problems: https://theartofdoing.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ManuCornet-OrgCharts.jpg https://theartofdoing.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ManuCor...
- endisneigh 3y agoYeah Microsoft is so incompetent they’ve managed to get only a near 3T market cap.
- meepmorp 3y agoOh shit, you're right, they've never done anything incompetent before!
- endisneigh 3y agoYa, I totally said they’ve never done anything incompetent lmao.
- dvngnt_ 3y agoHalo was a much better game series when Microsoft was worth a lot less. Increased stock valuation doesn't mean better games.
- prng2021 3y agoGiven how much regulatory resistance they’re facing just to acquire Activision Blizzard, I can’t imagine this ever happening.
- yuppie_scum 3y agoDisney would have more synergy with Nintendo I think
- namlem 3y agoOr Apple
- deafpolygon 3y agoYeah we saw the trainwreck with the Star Wars IP. Let's not go there.
- flangola7 3y agoWhat train wreck? Everyone I know is overjoyed for Ahsoka this week.
- Aqueous 3y agoIt’s been my impression that Nintendo wouldn’t go for this unless coerced or without any better options to stay soluble. We are talking about two diametrically opposed visions of what video games should be, just like Apple and Microsoft had two diametrically opposed visions of what PCs should be. Microsoft acquiring Nintendo would be a lot like Microsoft acquiring Apple - a hell-frozen-over moment that, should it have happened, meant things had gone totally sideways for Nintendo.
- soraminazuki 3y agoEven the thought of it is terrifying after seeing what Microsoft has done to Windows especially after Windows 10.
- derstander 3y ago> Through a flurry of leaked documents involved in the court case between the FTC and Microsoft, it has been revealed that the software giant has been looking to acquire Nintendo since the year 2020. The leaked document link doesn’t resolve for me. It sounds like this is a separate incident from the very early 2000’s one? They just laughed their asses off. Like, imagine an hour of somebody just laughing at you. That was kind of how that meeting went.”
- NikkiA 3y agoThey'd be stupid not to want to, I imagine Sony has pretty much the same intent
