Sure, it's for a cool 20 min video, but all the single-use buttons, mats, acrylic panels, LED strips, custom-made ethernet cables, ... A shame IMHO
- mach1ne 3y agoIt's not for a cool 20 minute video. It's for the collective viewing time of some 2.2 billion minutes of entertainment. There is no reason to use bootstrap-budget on the supply when the demand is this high.
- postingawayonhn 3y ago> collective viewing time of some 2.2 billion minutes of entertainment. Viewing stats for some videos/events can be hard to get your head around. That's about 50 lifetimes by my calculation.
- bombcar 3y agoBaby Shark has 13 billion views, at 2.25 minutes that is 55,000 years!
- jerrre 3y agoIt will be a high amount of minutes in any case, but not every view on YT will have seen the full 20 minutes
- ilyt 3y agoSo it also wasted 2.2 billion of people's time on top of the landfill...
- criddell 3y agoLike John Lennon once said, time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted. Also, a social media website is probably not the right place to point out that other people are wasting their time...
- bhouston 3y agoThis happens on films/tv shows as well all the time.

- rco8786 3y agoIt’s all cheap and pretty much all recyclable. And not going to move any sort of needle on any sort of waste scale.
- Aachen 3y agoNothing an individual does moves the needle. I'd be curious about the effect of showing to billions of people that this was all bought for one time use versus showing a hackerspace where you get, use, and then return your components. (Though, a single video is not going to move people's needles, it's again/always about collective changes...)
- pseg134 3y agoI don’t know what to tell you other than you should definitely try that on your YouTube channel.
- rco8786 3y agoAre you living a waste free lifestyle or something? Just seems petty to come dump that on someone's project. You can leave the same critical comment on millions of people's work, and they will all have the same zero positive impact.
- Aachen 3y agoTo the first point: are you? We all do what we can but obviously that's currently an impossible ask..? To the second: I'm not "dumping" anything on anyone's project, I'm replying to the person I was replying to (edit: just saw that's you /edit). They dismissed some argument because an individual project (including apparently ones with a billion views) allegedly can't have an impact and I see that differently, that's what I was commenting on, not the submission (it's not a top-level comment)
- joezydeco 3y agoAt this point in time, Beast is literally producing entire game shows on a shoestring budget and an insane amount of viewers (aka revenue).
- Incipient 3y agoFor someone clearly rolling on it, you think he could have popped down to meet the people literally killing themselves (5h sleep) to make his show work?
- tennisflyi 3y agoNot sure your office or WFH office was spun any better.
