Where do they go in winter? That being said, a nomadic lifestyle sounds so interesting and romantic. Too bad most nomads are heavily discriminated against.

- detourdog 3y agoFor a while I really wanted to be a Bedouin. In the end it just didn’t seem to be realistic. I ended up getting a job like everyone else. It just didn’t seem right.
- borski 3y agoI think that’s the thing, actually; everyone needs something different, by their nature, how they were raised, and so on. Combine that with a deep sense of the grass being always greener on the other side, and it becomes super important not just to find happiness but to know it when you’ve found it. My ex will never be happy, as she is unable to recognize happiness when she’s there. My wife, on the other hand, enjoys the moment, despite her ambition. It’s a huge part of why I married her. I, too, have dreams of escaping to a log cabin in the woods, with nobody to tax me, nobody to bother me, and nobody to get in the way of the exciting things I want to do. Of course, if I did that, I’d quickly dive deep into depression; I’m an extrovert, who am I kidding? But the dream remains all the same. :)

It could have worked. Travelers normally suck all support and benefits government provides and live relatively care free life.
- hef19898 3y agoHave evwr seen how Beduins, and other nomads, live? Hardly comparable to our comfortable life style as full time employees im developed industrial nations... I am so tired of the "social welfare queen" trope paraded around to argue against the poor and otherwise perceived minorities.
- nixass 3y agoI am more referring to mainland Europe and Irish/British travelers, should've pointed that out
- hef19898 3y agoAnd I didn't limit my argument in any way, explicitely I include travellers in developed nations too.
- detourdog 3y agoI was spending my summers in the Middle East during college. I would walk from historic locations to historic location. The bedouins in the Middle East have free rein to wander and they exist parallel to the modern world. I knew the desire was escapism. The Bedouins don't need the state they only need people to live by the code of the desert.

- amelius 3y agoA nomadic lifestyle sounds romantic, until you start thinking about connection to electricity, fresh water, and sewage.
