Well said.

- pagekalisedown 15y agoManchildren indeed. I think the worse manchildren are found in the game industry.
- Shivetya 15y agoWait till you come across the thumpers, we have one, his only saving grace from being shown the door is that he falls into a different category. Still, why would you want someone as a manager who would keep his own wife's car locked up at work because she failed to be properly respectful?

What in the hell kind of place are you working at!?
- alanh 15y agoCurious here: I assume a “thumper” is short for a “Bible thumper”? And what do you mean by “his only saving grace from being shown the door is that he falls into a different category”?
- pinkton 15y agoI thought it was a reference to domestic violence, but I suppose it could be a reference to religiously "justified" domestic violence.
- jonstjohn 15y agoI studied (and loved) Physics during my undergraduate education, but left it sophomore year because Physics 200 was filled with immature (seemingly) teenage boys with no social skills. I was looking for a broader experience. Tried biology (study of life, better male/female ratio), studied abroad in China, then graduated with a degree in Religion. It took me quite a few years to start working in software development, which I love, and brought me back to my analytic roots. Sometimes I wish I would have stuck with Physics, but had a lot of great experiences in the world on the path I chose. So, I can relate to not always jiving with the software culture, but I'm definitely sticking with it b/c it is what I love doing - and I have found a really great community in it despite some of the short-comings.
- drostie 15y agoA bit off topic, but if you ever want a syllabus of what you've missed in physics with some links to good material, Gerard 't Hooft's page is pretty spiffy-keen: http://www.staff.science.uu.nl/~hooft101/theorist.html http://www.staff.science.uu.nl/~hooft101/theorist.html
- jonstjohn 15y agoThis is really cool - thanks!
- agateform 15y agoGeneralizing 25-35 males working in the industry as manchildren can be seen as misandry (hatred of man). Misogyny does not justify misandry.
- parfe 15y agoYou deny her very experience?
- agateform 15y agogeorgieporgie is not a her https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3737621 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3737621 He can't possibly have experience with ALL males of 25 - 35 in the industry. Making such a general statement can be perceived as misandry. EDIT: My reaction was similar to how some people react to "I'm seriously considering leaving the field of software because I'm tired of working with 25 - 35 year old immature bitches/sluts ." I will consider the comment on reading comprehension and sensitivity.
- parfe 15y agoThe gender pronoun wasn't actually relevant but thanks for doing research! Georgieporgie is tired of working with 25 - 35 year old man children. How is that hating all men or generalizing to all men? In fact he specifically said "working with" as in he actually worked with these people. You seem awfully sensitive.
