Call of the Liar
- vouaobrasil 3y agoI saw a Superb Lyrebird in Australia just outside Melbourne. They are beautiful birds and once of the largest passerine species in the world (birds are divided into passerines and everything else. The class Aves consists of orders, and order Paseriformes (passerines) make up about half of the birds). One of my favourite animals.
- KineticLensman 3y ago> birds are divided into passerines and everything else Not quite. Aves is divided into Palaeognathae (which includes Ostriches, rheas, kiwis and emus amongst others) and Neognathae. Passerine is the largest order within Neognathae, but sits along side pigeons, ducks, flamingos and some others. (source: someone who is trying to learn the complex classifications embodied within 'raptor')
- javajosh 3y ago"The lyrebirds’ performances are a classic example of an excessively complex trait or behavior that was likely shaped through sexual selection." One cannot help but consider humans through this same lens.

- n4r9 3y agoSome people certainly can't help doing so. Interestingly, the point here is that Darwin was wrong. Or at least incomplete.
