- unsupp0rted 3y agoI'd like for there to be an amnesty for Canada on this topic. Otherwise every 3 months it's going to repeat and repeat. I wasn't in Canada when this happened. My ancestors weren't in Canada when this happened. And it wouldn't matter if they were. In 2023 I treat natives like any other human being and so does almost every single other Canadian. Fight injustice that is happening, not injustice that may or may not have happened long before any of us were alive. At some point a nation needs to acknowledge, admit, apologize, pay out, and be let off the hook. Countries shouldn't be liable for original sin. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/english-river-first-nation-announces-more-findings-in-unmarked-graves-1.6951437 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/english-river-first...
- NoZebra120vClip 3y agoThis has been a known hoax basically since its inception. Researchers used sophisticated imaging techniques to find shadows of nothing, but the media was thirsty for a damaging story against colonialism and the Roman Catholic Church, and hyped up this myth of thousands of dead children who were supposedly abandoned to oblivion by the sisters, religious, clergy, and laymen who cared for their very lives, educated them as best they knew how, and upheld their dignity, even if the colonial government was indifferent to it. This was such a realistic hoax that the Church herself bought into it, and the Holy Father himself visited the sites in Canada, on an "apology tour", and directly and unambiguously apologized for atrocities which never, ever happened. It's humiliating for faithful people like me, when our history is admittedly sprinkled with troubles, that fake news would gain currency and even be the catalyst for hate crimes, such as the vicious and vengeful arson and destruction of historic Catholic churches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Canadian_church_burnings https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Canadian_church_burnings https://nypost.com/2021/07/12/us-media-shamefully-justified-a-string-of-canadian-church-burnings/ https://nypost.com/2021/07/12/us-media-shamefully-justified-... https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/254419/archbishop-mourns-loss-of-historic-church-in-alberta-canada-destroyed-by-arson https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/254419/archbishop-mo...
- defrost 3y agoThe totality of new content in this linked NYPost article is simply "14 holes dug in the basement of a single building found no remains" Minegoziibe Anishinabe, a group of indigenous people also known as Pine Creek First Nation, excavated 14 sites in the basement of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Catholic Church near the Pine Creek Residential School in Manitoba during four weeks this summer. This isn't one of the several Canadian locations where any of the past 100s of individual unmarked graves have been alleged after mapping by GPR (ground penetrating radar). It doesn't 'prove' the Kamloops claims (for example) to be a hoax at all. The industrialised savagergy of Catholic institutions towards orphans and stolen children in their care has been well documented as a systemic problem across the globe. eg: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-39078652 https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-39078652 outlines the common fate of tens of thousands of post war British "orphans" (many with parents seperated by war) given over to "care" of Christian Brothers at multiple sites.
- NoZebra120vClip 3y agoExcept that the claims have never been backed by any evidence at all, and the scientists with their exotic scanners are simply ghost chasers who should be on TLC or Discovery Channel. It's irresponsible and reprehensible for the media to claim thousands of dead bodies when they, in fact, have zero dead bodies, actually zero images of any body at all. In Canada, is it a prosecutable offence to stir up hate crimes and violence against a protected group? Perhaps the journalists who wrote fake news about those non-graves should be prosecuted for inciting others to violence. That might make them think twice.
