Ask HN: Do rich people worry about their personal security?
- not_your_vase 3y agoI guess so, why wouldn't they? Some worry about leaked assassination coordinates, for example (which in some cases might be even a valid concern).
- dezb 3y agoindeed.. poor people get robbed for as little as their bicycles or smart phones, so of course those of us who have worked our way to wealth take our personal, professional and corporate security very seriously..
- cinntaile 3y agoThose are opportunity crimes and they are very common, they don't really distinguish between poor and rich in this case. Planned crimes are much more rare.

It's great!
- jacknobody 3y agoIt looks to me that rich celebrities have to spend vast amounts on security. They can't go to the beach; can't go to the supermarket; can't in fact do anything normal. Some very rich folk I know are discreet with their wealth. If they were show-offs they'd need lots of security, but nobody knows them so nobody tries to take their things or hurt them.
- simonblack 3y agoThe operative word here is 'celebrities'. Normal rich people are unknown, and most of them aren't showy. They're just the ones quietly flying first-class instead of 'economy'.
- simonblack 3y agoNot particularly. We're more valuable alive, than dead. Rich does not necessarily = 'famous' or 'ostentatious'. my sister looks like she couldn't rub two cents together. She could probably buy and sell me ten times over.
