Show HN: Name Checker – check your project name accross many sites
- tony-allan 3y agoVery convenient. Small suggestion — include a link to the name in each repository.
- isuleman 3y agosecond it ..
- lsferreira42 3y agoDone!
- phagenlocher 3y agoVery cool! Is this open-source? It would be cool to add a few sources to this (like https://hackage.haskell.org https://hackage.haskell.org).
- lsferreira42 3y agoIt will be open source as soon as i let the code more readable. For now, i added the haskell check, you can try now :) And of course, if you have any suggestions i'll be happy to read!!
- phagenlocher 3y agoWorks well! Who would have guessed that the name "foobar" is taken on so many platforms? :P
- urip 3y agoAm I the only one getting an error about the website's SSL certificate?
- lsferreira42 3y agoThe ssl is provided by cloudflare
- toddcooke 3y agoSimilar to https://github.com/toddcooke/namechecker https://github.com/toddcooke/namechecker
- mickelsen 3y agoYeah, I found yours through @rauchg of Vercel the other day, and thought you were posting it now on HN: https://x.com/rauchg/status/1688345246399344640 https://x.com/rauchg/status/1688345246399344640
- JohnMunsch 3y agoIf this were my project I think I would provide some reassurances that the site doesn't keep records of project names or results and that none of it will be used to register accounts. Several domain search websites over the years have been credibly accused of using info gleaned from searches to pre-register domains and accounts in order to take advantage of user's information.
- lsferreira42 3y agoIt's a valid concern, but i can't see how i can approach that, because in the end with this running on my server i can be watching in many ways. I think the best option here is to maintain a cli version, that's something i've been thinking about.
- pkd 3y agoYou could use something similar to the k-anonymity approach from haveibeenpwned: https://blog.cloudflare.com/validating-leaked-passwords-with-k-anonymity/ https://blog.cloudflare.com/validating-leaked-passwords-with...
