Are you associated with Node-Red?
- Towaway69 3y agoMe? No, I just do a lot work with node-red because I enjoy the visual programming experience. I wonder why programs have to be textual when we have tools that can make them visual and thereby more inclusive.
- claytongulick 3y ago> visual and thereby more inclusive. How does making code visual make it more inclusive?
- solarkraft 3y agoPreventing syntax errors/abstracting syntax is probably the most important piece.
- Towaway69 3y agoA picture is worth a 1000 words. Imagery can be simpler to understand for non techies. The more who understand, the more are included in the solution.
- omniglottal 3y agoIt does not replace those thousand words. I challenge you to share one picture which replaces a 10-word bash script.
- Towaway69 3y agoChallenge accepted, any preference for the 10 word bash script?
- Towaway69 3y agoOk, here's my attempt with a bit of python code: https://flowhub.org/f/91197129247b83b8 https://flowhub.org/f/91197129247b83b8 It's more than 10 words and definitely inconclusive as to whether Python or image is more explanatory. The only good thing is that the image is Node-RED "code" and can actually be executed in Node-RED.
- smcleod 3y agoYou can explain and explore complex concepts and designs with folks that aren’t programmers where there would otherwise be a gap.
- omniglottal 3y agoThat gap is not filled with images.
