The Invention of a Neighborhood
- mynameishere 3y agoIt reveals a white middle-class population not only dislodging a poor and diverse one but defining them out of the picture. Yet few seemed aware that they were doing anything wrong. White people should stay to their ghettos, I suppose. And since "diverse" people can move anywhere (and retain their morality), those ghettos are naturally getting smaller. Nothing about this is complicated. When "diverse" people move into a neighborhood, it sometimes causes a collapse in living conditions. If the middle-class people move out, this is "white flight" and is evil. Later on, if other middle-class people move in, this is "gentrification" and is also evil. You absolutely cannot win with leftists. If you wonder why they are inconsistent in their logic, it is because they are consistent in their hatred.
- no_butterscotch 3y agoI have no idea why you're downvoted, this is the truth > If the middle-class people move out, this is "white flight" and is evil. Later on, if other middle-class people move in, this is "gentrification" and is also evil. Yes this is in every city and state.
- dontknowwhyihn 3y agoPrepare to be downvoted to oblivion. HN is a leftist echo chamber. If you question vaccines, climate change, systemic racism, or the trans ideology, your voice will not be heard. I’m probably shadow banned already.
- GrinningFool 3y ago> sometimes causes a collapse in living conditions. 'white flight' is not contingent on a 'collapse in living conditions'. > Later on, if other... Gentrification does not imply that the region must have /originally/ been primarily white middle class.
- coolspot 3y agoDamn White people and their… /checks notes/ …neighborhoods!
- nitwit005 3y ago> Half a century later, the word “renewal” is widely understood as a euphemism for an intrinsically racist program of neighborhood demolition, favorable only to the financiers of freeways, shopping malls, and stadiums. No, we both fault local governments for improving neighborhoods, and for not improving them. Someone is always angry.
