So now line 2 is exit 0.
- quickthrower2 3y agoYou have a … wat?
- mrweasel 3y agoSo you're not testing anymore, because a failed test would show up on someones dashboard?
- david-gpu 3y agoThis has to be a joke. One way or the other.
- mrweasel 3y agoI would hope so, but I can see it in an environment where you're penalized for "incidents". Take the AWS dashboard, it almost never show any downtime and based on comments on HN that's because it would have a negative on the team in charge of the failing service.
- tgv 3y agoThe anxiety in your comment is almost palpable. Let me heighten it a bit. Some time ago, there was a post about obtaining minimal code coverage. They achieved this by adding a number of useless statements for every increase in code size. I also really hope that's not true. http://reddit.com/r/ProgrammerHumor/comments/11dou0s/found_this_at_work_someone_padded_a_repo_with/ http://reddit.com/r/ProgrammerHumor/comments/11dou0s/found_t...
- david-gpu 3y agoTIHI. I refuse to believe it for my sanity's sake.
- LispSporks22 3y agoI did consulting for a decade at dozens of mega co. Oh the things one sees!
- tenebrisalietum 3y agoIncrease your testing speed by 50% by replacing your `#!/bin/bash` (or whatever) with `#!/bin/true` and reducing your script to 1 line.
- datadrivenangel 3y agoyou can go even faster by piping to \dev\null! It's very performant.
- Karellen 3y agoIs piping to /dev/null webscale?
- rcbdev 3y agoDoes it support sharding?
- jerf 3y agoIt is literally impossible to support sharding better than /dev/null does.
- LargeTomato 3y agoWe just need an elastic load balancer, a reverse proxy, a couple /dev/null sinks, observability & metrics, backup, green-blue deployments, auditability, staging and preprod environments, and a month or so of SWE time. That will be well over $20k from the corporate salary budget, thank you!

- eitland 3y agoIf this is true as you describe it and has been true for more than a few days then I am reasonably sure the organization you work for has at least one but probably 2 or more problems that are bigger than both Goodharts law and exit 0 on line 2.
- digitalsushi 3y agoI used the present tense but this was actually quite a long time ago on another team at another company. Please consider it anecdotal. As a child, I worked at a large popular fast food chain. Also measured by error metrics, the trainer showed me how to fry a frozen chicken sandwich. The meat spilled to the floor on accident. He said, "here's your first lesson: no one saw that!" Into the frier they went, metrics perfect. It's all the same bad faith. Managers put odometers on every interface, workers spend their time developing odometer foulers. I could never own a business I wasn't the sole worker at.
