China wants to limit minors to no more than two hours a day on their phones
- JoeAltmaier 3y agoWill this create a market in minor-screen-minutes?
- sureglymop 3y agoWhat about all the 17 year old incredibly gifted hacker teenagers with anime profile pictures? They need access to technology and internet at a young age to become that.
- TheLoafOfBread 3y agoWell look on it from bright side - China is artificially limiting its cyber-offensive potential without actually realizing it.
- sempron64 3y agoThey're actually creating a generation of hackers by forcing teenagers to find creative ways around the time limit.
- slim 3y agothey have special hacker schools and a program to detect high potential hackers in pre-school. I'm kidding, but I'm sure they have it
- hsjqllzlfkf 3y agoWhat's with the anime profile pics? I feel like I'm missing the plot.
- sureglymop 3y agoOh it's just a joke because it seems like some of the most talented hackers I've seen lately have anime pictures as their github profile picture. I could have left that out though, it's not relevant and there's absolutely nothing wrong with liking anime.
- polski-g 3y agoLooks like China is rapidly approaching an all-hands-on-deck strategy for their fertility woes.
- pizzafeelsright 3y agoI have a toddler who has zero minutes total screen time. The challenge is indeed daunting considering how easily it is to pass off the parenting responsibilities to technology. I have started to limit my own time along by sending an update every week to my circle about my usage. I then try and drive that down with time limits. The tech companies including China would love for you to use their products 99.9% of your waking life while limiting their children from the same products they create.
- hsjqllzlfkf 3y agoI have a two year old also with zero minutes total. Why do you say the challenge is daunting? Was raising kids ever not was a lot of work? It hasn't become more difficult to raise kids, it's just that easier alternatives appeared.
- seanmcdirmid 3y agoIt’s a lot of work not taking those easier alternatives, sort of like it takes willpower to not eat chocolate cake. > Was raising kids ever not was a lot of work? It hasn't become more difficult to raise kids, it's just that easier alternatives appeared As a former 80s kids, I’m going to push back on this notion a bit: our parents were infamous for getting away with minimal parenting in general (and mine definitely did). TV, video games, playing at the local abandoned industrial site, was all on the table, it’s a wonder we survived.
- pizzafeelsright 3y agoPerhaps I was being generous to others. At the moment the kid is learning the querty layout. Typing letters in an ultra large font while asking me how to spell words. I will add that I am navigating these waters as someone who had far too much exposure to TV, video games, computers, and Internet since the modem days. I am mostly indifferent to the medium but I am hoping to build the social connections as well as the creative and builder mindset and not just consumer of content.
- qubex 3y agoI’m not going to take sides in this, but I am going to mention that twenty years down the line we’ll have fascinating comparative studies with really solid data.
