Using GPT-4 for content moderation
- vouaobrasil 3y ago> We believe this offers a more positive vision of the future of digital platforms, where AI can help moderate online traffic according to platform-specific policy and relieve the mental burden of a large number of human moderators. This is the justification they give for GPT. Of course, it is intuitively and emotionally appealing. But let's look at the bigger picture: AI/ChatGPT enabling content moderation lowers the economic cost of creating large, anonymous platforms that breed unhealthy content in the first place, including those created by AI. Therefore, it pushes the internet further in the direction of huge mega-tech companies controlling more of the internet by making huge platforms with billions of users. PERHAPS we should ask the question: if we are hosting and creating platforms where so much content is created, then is the world really better off with this glut of content? A single platform where there are millions of users encourages a society where more and more people interact more effectively anonymously towards each other (even if they know each other's names), which as we all know, makes people less empathetic and caring. (Isolated anecdata need not apply, I'm talking about on AVERAGE). How about instead of creating MORE technological solutions to the problem of content moderation, we find a way to produce LESS content LESS often and in smaller communities? Because if we don't, we will find ourselves in a world where online interaction is soulless and robotic. Producing LESS would be less profitable for tech companies and better for us -- a win-win. Just think of your last call to a telecom: "sorry sir/madam, your content has been flagged for self-harm. The appropriate authorities have been notified". And you respond, "but I just said I hate my life as a joke...". "Sorry sir/madam, your complaint is not understood. Press 8 to hear the menu options again." I like the internet in general, but these days I'm liking it less and less, especially with a company like OpenAI in the midst. So how about we slow down instead a little? In the case of communities, just because we CAN globalize, doesn't mean we should!
