Show HN: Dicetray.gg A virtual dice tray for tabletop RPGs and board games
I have been working on dicetray.gg for a while now, and I am looking to show it off and get some feedback.
Doing my best to emulate a physical dice tray. Right now, you can:
-Add up to 10 of each dice to your tray.
-Roll all dice in your tray, or select just some to roll by clicking on them.
-Join a multiplayer log to see and share roll results with friends.
Features I am looking to add soon:
-Per dice customization. You can now use the (`) key to open a development panel to customize all the dice.
I would appreciate any feedback on the UI, user experience, and performance as well as any feature ideas.
- ilaksh 3y agoI love this. It seems so realistic. Congratulations! Have you thought about finding ways to integrate with existing online tools?
- HeeroKazen 3y agoThanks! I have started looking into integrations, but I can't overlay the dice rolls on another app without getting rid of the tray which feels like too much of a sacrifice. I will definitely do what I can to export roll results to other tools.
- gsuuon 3y agoThis is neat! I'd say there could be some improvement on selecting which dice to roll, but I'm not sure what. It feels clunky to adjust the dice with the drawer and -+ buttons. I wonder if this works on mobile - have you considered using the accelerometer to throw?
- HeeroKazen 3y agoIts possible to have a bunch of dice in the tray and click/tap to select just some dice to roll, but I am thinking about adding a text entry to do something along the lines of "2d20+1d4". I am targeting mobile and have been testing the DeviceMotion [0] web API, but browser support is not great. [0] https://caniuse.com/?search=DeviceMotion https://caniuse.com/?search=DeviceMotion
