Alleged Superconductor LK-99 Might Need 'Doping' to Work
- hyperhello 3y agoThe image shows a big chunk of levitating matter labeled LK-99, so I guess it’s a superconductor.
- seewhydee 3y agoYeah, it needs to be doped with a room temperature superconductor, lol.
- lamontcg 3y agoDefinitely needs dopes for it to work.
- jychang 3y agoDid anyone review this article before publishing it? Typos like “precursos”, really?
- Pet_Ant 3y agoAbove all LK-99 looks to be physically interesting and worth studying and a step forward for science. Now if it is actually super conducting, awesome, that’s a bonus. Just a little strange that something so sophisticated was made by people so sloppy.
- PlasmonOwl 3y agoHahahahaha. 99% of chemistry is done this way. The term used is 'serendipitous' - aka I accidentally grabbed the wrong bottle. Honestly.
- 7373737373 3y agoDoes a list with short descriptions of discoveries like these exist? Could be a fun read Edit: apparently yes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_discoveries_influenced_by_chance_circumstances https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_discoveries_influenced...
- m463 3y agoI remember reading how some scientist or inventor had alloyed iron/steel with various other metals and found a lot of samples rusted, but one with chromium was very shiny and didn't rust. Also the original "point contact transistor" was pretty crude and impractical.
- seeknotfind 3y agoEven if it's not a superconductor, it will inspire a new wave of scientists working on them.
