Parking garage linking license plates to phone numbers raises privacy concerns
- joezydeco 3y agoIf I had to guess? It's SpotHero that's sharing their database. I recently used a reservation in a Chicago garage and the gate went up as soon as I pulled up to the ticket machine, before I could scan my barcode. I talked to an attendant to make sure my parking was valid, he said the license plate (which you also register with SpotHero) triggered the gate opening, not the barcode. The garage at 2600 Western is a SpotHero client.

The article doesn't specify how much time has passed, but it must not have been much (days, weeks, maybe months) there is something perverse in any mechanism that allows 800% grow of a debt in a short time. BTW, the message seems to me (and this probably show how old I am) like a perfect example of the phishing "Please click here to learn more" kind that we were taught to ignore and NOT reply to.
